Planning guide researched September 16, 2026; not a hands-on comparison. Dollar amounts below are spending limits, not advertised product prices or a live shopping cart. Check the current total, including tax and shipping, before ordering.

The main difference between these budgets is the number of production jobs they can fund, not a guaranteed jump in quality. All three assume you already have a suitable computer, display and headphones. The console plans also assume you own the console. None is a complete new PC build.

Compare the workflow before the shopping list

BudgetIntended jobWhat it does not cover
$200Start a single-computer show with a basic microphone or facecam upgrade.A new computer, dedicated console capture or a complete lighting system.
$500Bring a separate HDMI console into an existing computer, with modest voice and camera allowances.A new console/computer or guaranteed compatibility with every chat arrangement.
$1,000Combine console capture, upgraded webcam and retained recordings.A second PC, professional touring system or automatic improvement in audience growth.

The detailed allocations are in the $200 starter guide, $500 console guide and $1,000 combined guide. Each includes checkout reserve. Treat the amounts as spending caps and check actual prices; do not add the three lists together.

The most valuable upgrade may cost nothing

Start with a saved test based on the OBS quick-start process. A microphone placed badly, an unwanted audio source or a poorly framed camera can make a working device look like a bad purchase. Change one thing and compare at similar playback volume and scene size.

If you cannot describe the defect in the recording, postpone the hardware order. A bigger budget is useful when it pays for a defined job, such as adding an HDMI input. It is less useful when it replaces equipment without identifying what is inadequate.

Use the intermediate budgets for different priorities

The $300 plan is for a small facecam and controllable light. It is not a watered-down console-capture list. The $750 plan prioritizes the camera view and saved recordings around an existing computer, without automatically buying a capture card.

This distinction prevents a common budgeting problem: allocating money to a capture card simply because a creator owns one. OBS’s Windows Game Capture documentation describes a software route for compatible games on the same computer. A separate HDMI device solves a different problem.

Which limit are you actually hitting?

Observed problemFirst actionPotential spending only after the check
Speech is hard to followCheck source selection, placement and a saved recording.A microphone or support that fits the speaking position.
Face is difficult to seeCheck framing and move an existing light.A dedicated face light, then camera if still justified.
Need a console inside a produced computer sceneCheck supported output, host ports and chat path.Compatible capture hardware.
Running out of recording spaceMeasure sample files and retention.Appropriate storage and a separate backup plan.
Only the live stream breaks upCompare local recording with received stream.A diagnosed network improvement, not an unrelated camera.

Use the storage calculator for the recording question and the network troubleshooting guide for local wireless issues. Neither replaces testing the specific application and connection you use.

How creator gear should influence the choice

Our creator analyses deliberately answer different questions: Kai Cenat: event kit versus personal inventory; IShowSpeed: touring transmission versus a desk; Jynxzi: listening, chat and commentary; CaseOh: a themed case versus a complete PC; Shroud: mouse fit versus a famous name; and Pokimane: a reported XLR mic versus a full audio chain.

A collaboration, a third-party equipment list and a dated visual sighting are different kinds of evidence. None tells you that copying an entire cart will reproduce a creator’s result.

The spending rule

Choose the cheapest plan that funds your next demonstrated need, then leave unused money alone. This comparison has no direct shopping links: the individual guides place verified product options beside their intended use and limitations. That makes it easier to evaluate a purchase in context instead of treating a larger number as the goal.
